The APS March Meeting is held every year in March which is the conference mainly for condensed matter physicists. Its an one week program and this year its held from 5th to 9th in Denver, Colorado. All the talks are for 10+2 minutes (except the invited talks which are for 25+5 minutes) and start at 8.00 AM and end at 5.00PM and remarkably there are atleast 20 parallel sessions at everytime. So you can imagine how many physicists are preseant here. Oops! condensed matter physicists. Even though this my second time for such Meeting, but this time when I walked into the conference room yesterday morning, I felt little scared. So ... soo many people are working in almost the same field I am in and I am nothing but an another drop in the occean.
Apart from that Denver is a very beautiful and large city. As you all know Colorado is a place of flat mountains (e.g., Rocky) and deserts. It took us 40-45 minutes ($60) to reach the downtown from the airport by Taxi even though the roads were trafficfree (mainly highways). As I said the city is very large and buildings are spread out and the roads are wider than Boston. The 16th street is specially interesting. Its a very long and wide street; the middle lane is full of trees with lights, statues, benches etcetera where on both sides of it are the one-way streets for ONLY busses which are free of cost. I have seen the trains to run on the streets which reminds me the historical Trams or Trums of Calcutta.
I have postponed my return ticket for three more days to see some places with Thayaparan.
